La Chiesa di Sant’Andrea è posta su un’altura ad ovest del centro abitato di Sonico. Eretta seguendo classici stili dalle linee romaniche, si ritiene che sia stata edificata nel XI secolo. Anche quest’antico edificio fu ospizio per pellegrini e viandanti. Un’antica tradizione ricorda l’abitudine di stendere sul sagrato delle lenzuola per annunciare l’inizio della messa.
La Chiesa è stata a lungo la Parrocchiale di Sonico, benché sorga fuori dal paese, su una piccola altura lungo l’argine destro del fiume Oglio. Dell’originaria struttura romanica restano i muri dell’unica navata più volte restaurati durante i secoli, mentre l’abside primitiva è stata sostituita da un presbiterio rettangolare. La porta principale non è sulla facciata, ma su una parete laterale.
Circa a metà del 1500 la Parrocchia viene trasferita nella nuova chiesa di San Lorenzo, e Sant’Andrea viene custodita e curata da un eremita.
Dopo secoli di abbandono, le recenti opere di recupero sono volte a restituire alla costruzione l’antica dignità.
Chiesa di S. Andrea a Sonico
The Church of St. Andrew is post on a hill west of the town of Sonico. It was built following the classic styles from Romanesque style, is believed to have been built in the eleventh century. Even this old building was a hospice for pilgrims and travelers. An ancient tradition recalls the habit of drawing the square of the sheet to announce the start of the religious ceremonies. The Church has long been the Parish Church of Sonico, although it arises out of the country, on a small hill along the right bank of the Oglio river. Of the original Romanesque structure are the walls of the single nave restored several times over the centuries, while the apse was replaced by a primitive rectangular presbytery. The main gate is not on the front, but on a side wall. About half of 1500 the parish was transferred to the new church of St. Lawrence, and St. Andrew Church is kept and cared for by a hermit. After centuries of neglect, recent works of improvement are designed to restore the dignity of the old building.
