Torre Militare a Rino – Military Tower in Rino

In the beautiful village of Rino, 2 km from the town of Sonico, we can still see the walls of a medieval tower in St. Antony Square. This ancient artifact, clearly of military origin, dates back to before the year one thousand. The fort is located near the bridge over the Remulo river, a must for those who journeyed on the road between Garda and Sonico via Rino, it is likely that had the function of controlling traffic on quest’arteria. Currently the tower is part of a building of irregular shape and compact, but in the past, since the surrounding buildings date back to the 1600 (on a stone is carved the date 1682) could be isolated or part of a small fort that the tower had reduced its defense. The problem arises because some authors, es. Mr. Sinistri, identifiable part of the buildings leaning against the remains of a second tower. From what we see seems that the tower was to secure the country from a building structure provided with small openings and loopholes. According to Mr. Lechi was about 14 meters high, with a square base and is currently still small square openings and a small portal on the ground floor arched. Originals are without doubt the portal with a monolithic granite arch, a slit window and a small buffer on the south‐west. The wall is visible on three sides and consists of large granite blocks and slightly rough‐hewn square, arranged in regular courses. Internally it is divided into four levels, the first and second are at once while the third is covered with wooden floor. In the walls of the third level there are still holes in the support beams that supported the original floors.
